INTERNATIONAL POLITICAL THEORY
Re: Re: Re: Overmilitarized response to terror?
by Pyrrho
I would like to touch briefly on the point you made that, given "how hard it is to stop all of the time, any action that inevitably aids terrorist recruitment without dramatically diminishing terrorist safe space and support is certain to be a net lose in the 'global war on terror'". I would like to amend the statement with the clarification that, it is not so much 'hard' for us to stop to engaging in action that contributes to terrorist recruitment. It is simply that the aim of our international policies is not to diminish terrorist recruitment. Prior to engaging in war with Iraq the Bush administration received memos for the Central Intelligence Agency, which are now public, advising President Bush that military action against Iraq would lead to further terrorist recruitment, particularly in the Iraq area. Furthermore, prior to the invasion of Iraq there were no major Islamic Fundamentalist groups in Iraq, which maintained any real power. If the goal is to minimize terrorist activity then we ourselves must not engage in acts that we now will increase the recruitment of terrorist and we ourselves must not engage in acts of terror, such as the terrible bombing campaign entitled 'Shock and Awe"
